Commanding Officers of the 8th Battalion
The 8th Battalion was formed on the 1st April 1908 as a Territorial volunteer battalion. This battalion was made up of men from the old Worcestershire Rifle Volunteer Corps, which had been established in 1860 (these Rifle Volunteer Corps had become the 2nd Volunteer Battalion by 1883).
In September 1914 a "Second Line" Battalion was formed as the 2/8th Battalion at which time the original 8th Battalion became known as the 1/8th Battalion. In January 1915 a "Third Line" Battalion was formed as the 3/8th Battalion. After the First World War the 8th Battalion reverted to just one unit.
The 8th Battalion was finally disbanded on the 1st March 1946
Below is a list of all the officers who have commanded the 8th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment from 1908 to 1946.
