Killed in action on the 28th May 1918 (age 20) during the Battle of the Aisne.

Enlisted in the Devonshire Regiment (army number 68989)
Prior to his transferred to the Worcesters.

Joseph was born in 1896 in St Pancras, London, the Son of Charles Edgar Maskall and Rosetta Maskall (nee Brown) of 78 Cromer Street, Grays Inn Road, London. He was one of eight children, the second eldest. At the age of 14 he was an errand boy.

Joseph's name appears on the Soissons Memorial in France and on the war memorial on the Holy Trinity Church very near his home in Cromer street
