Colonel of the 36th Regiment of Foot (became 2nd Battalion Worcestershire Regiment in 1881)

Richard Pierson was for many years an officer in the First Foot guards, in which regiment he was appointed Major, with the rank of Colonel in the army, on the 21st of July 1760. On the 10th of July 1762, he was promoted to the rank of Major-General, and on the 5th of September 1764 he was appointed Colonel of the 63rd Regiment of Foot, from which he was removed on the 11th of September 1765 to the 36th Regiment of Foot.
In 1772 he was promoted to the rank of Lieut.-General, and was also honoured with the dignity of a Knight of the Bath; and on the 27th of November 1778, Sir Richard Pierson was removed to the 13th Dragoons. He was taken suddenly taken ill on his return from the theatre on the night of the 12th of February 1781, and died before the following morning.
