Major-General James FLEMING

Colonel of the 36th Regiment of Foot (became 2nd Battalion Worcestershire Regiment in 1881)
Appointed Colonel on 9th January 1741 to 12th March 1751

 

James Fleming was originally a cavalry man. He was gazetted Cornet in Kellum's Dragoons in 1705. The Kellum's Dragoons eventually became the 5th Dragoon Guards.

Lieut.-Colonel James Fleming was promoted from the 7th Royal Fusiliers to the colonelcy of the 36th Regiment of Foot, on the 9th of January 1741. He was advanced to the rank of Brigadier-General in June 1745, and was present in the action at Falkirk on the 17th of January 1746, and also at the battle of Culloden on the 16th of April following.

He was promoted to the rank of Major-General on the 2nd of September 1747.

He died in March 1751.
