Lieut.-Colonel John Frederick BADHAM, D.S.O.

Commanded the 17th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment from April 1919 to September 1919.

John Frederick Badham was born at Clapham, Surrey in 1877, the son of Major Richard Leslie Stowell Badham and Ada Maria (nee Luckie).

John Frederick Badham was a Lance Corporal (4316) with the 1st (Royal) Dragoon and saw active service with them in South Africa during the Boer War.

He received a commission as an officer in to the 4th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment on the 23rd April 1902, with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant.

He then served with the 3rd Battalion Worcestershire Regiment and was promoted Lieutenant on the 17th November 1904.

He was appointed Adutant of the 3rd Battalion Worcestershire Regiment on the 4th April 1907 and resigned this appointment on the 9th November 1907.

On the 9th February 1910 he was seconded for service under the Colonial Office with the West Africa Frontier Force and posted to the 5th Nigeria Regiment. Whilst serving with the West Africa Frontier Force he was granted the local rank of Captain on the 11th September 1912. On the 19th September 1914 he was promoted to the substantive rank of Captain and remained seconded. On the 1st October 1916 he was granted the local rank of Major whilst still serving with the Nigeria Regiment.

John badaham was given the rank of Brevet Lieutenant-Colonel on the 1st January 1918 and from the 4th March to the 12th June 1918 he served as Temporary Lieut.-Colonel with Nigeria contingent.

During 1918 he married Ruth Green in London.

On the 26th April 1919 he took command of the 17th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment and relinguished command on the 18th September 1919.

He later moved to serve with the Royal Welsh Fusiliers.

On the 30th June 1924 he was granted the local rank of Colonel whilst serving with the West Africa Frontier Force.

On the 18th November 1925 he was promoted to substantive rank of Lieut.-Colonel in the Dorset Regiment.

Retired from the Army on the 22nd November 1927.

Lieut.-Colonel John Frederick Badham died in London in 1946 (age 69)
