General Charles ASHMORE
Commanded the 36th Regiment of Foot (1st Battalion) from March 1845 to .

Charles Ashmore entered the Service as Ensign in the 88th Foot, his commission bearing date 25th of December 1813. On 16th of July 1815, he proceeded with his regiment to France, where he served in the army of occupation until 1st of April 1818. On 13th of April 1820, he was promoted to a Lieutenautcy in 88th Foot, and on 19th of August 1828, he was promoted Captain (unattached list). On 22nd of February 1831, he was transferred to the 36th Regiment, and on 7th of May 1833, embarked with the 36th Regiment for the West Indies, where he served until 15th of February 1836. On 11th of July 1839, he sailed for North America, Where he served until 14th of October 1840. On 15th of December of same year he was promoted to the rank of Major, and on 22nd of May 1845, Lieutenant-Colonel. On 8th of February 1847, he proceeded in command of the Regiment to the Ionian Islands, where he served until 16th of May 1854. From thence he proceeded with the Regiment to the West Indies, where he served in Barbadoes and Jamaica until 10th of October 1856. He was promoted Colonel on 20th of June 1854, and exchanged to half-pay on 15th of May 1857.
