4th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment (1903 to 1913)

On the 18th February 1902 the 4th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment  (16 officers and 411 men) boarded the steam ship s.s. Harlech Castle. The battalion sailed to Bermuda, arriving there on the 4th March 1902 and  were responsible for guarding prisoners of war from the Boer War. From the 6th December 1903 to the 12th November 1905 they were stationed in Barbados. On the 13th November 1905 they were transported by the steam ship s.s. Zaria and headed for Malta, arriving there on the 2nd December 1905.

In 1906 Britain was experiencing some unrest in Egypt as a result of the dispute over Taba. The British Agency in Cairo warned of possible anti-British feeling. Additional British Forces were sent to Egypt. The 4th Battalion sailed from Malta aboard s.s. Dilwara on the 8th May 1906, arriving in Egypt on the 11th May 1906.

On the 9th June 1906 the battalion returned to Malta on board s.s. Dufferin, where they stayed until 11th November 1908.

The next move was to India where they would spend the next 4 years, based mainly at Bareilly.

Below are a selection of photos from the 4th Battalion which have been submitted to the website from relatives of the Regimental veterans.
